The standard races of Tryll are: human, elven, half-elven, dwarven, half-giant, minotaur and kender. Each race has its distinct advantages and disadvantages, as outlined by the Player's Handbook and other resources. Single and Multi-classing On Tryll, any race may be single or multi-classed. This rule is subject only to Racial Class Restrictions. In turn, any race may become dual classed, if they started their career as a single classed character. Multi-classed characters will stay their original starting classes forever.
Any race can be single classed in the classes allowed for that race. Advancement in that class is unlimited (see "High Level Advancement" section). Multi-classed characters may advance to their racial maximum, as listed further in this article. Optionally, high attribute scores may increase the character's maximum levels beyond the racial maximum. Racial Level Limits Note that this table applies only to Multi-classed characters. Single classed characters enjoy an unlimited level advancement in their chosen class.

Level Advancement All characters may advance normally in their respective classes, until one of two possible scenarios occurs. The first is that a multi-classed character reaches his maximum levels for race and attributes, and may no longer advance in levels. The second occurs when a single classed character reaches level 18 in his or her class. When a multi-classed character reaches maximum levels, he still gains experience, but may no longer benefit from increased levels. However, if some of the optional rules are used (such as non-weapon proficiencies or weapon proficiencies), the character's effective level may be tracked, to determine availability of new proficiencies. When a single classed character reaches level 18, he may either decided to dual class (provided his statistics are good enough), or continue to advance in his chosen class. Should he chose to continue past level 18, he has two options. The first is that he remains on Tryll, living his life the way he always has. The second is that he relocate to Idyllia, to undergo the Test of Immortality. Single classed characters who remain on Tryll will find it very difficult to gain experience past this point. They has achieved such a level of skill that not much remains which can challenge them. An 18th level fighter facing 5 ogres would receive only partial experience (or even, perhaps, no experience at all) from the encounter. He is more than capable of dealing with the ogres, and was never at any real risk. Only the most deadly of foes (high level NPCs, dragons, a tarrasque, etc.) are deadly enough to the Player Character to warrant earning experience. Likewise, this character would gain no experience from treasure found, unless it was found as a part of defeating or battling a dangerous foe. The second option is petitioning the gods for travel to Idyllia. Here, the single classed Player Character is challenged anew, and may begin to earn new experience points, advancing at a more rapid rate than his Tryll-bound contemporary. Both the single and multi-classed Player Character may attempt to run the Test of Immortality. These characters, if successful, will achieve status as Immortals, free to return to Tryll to rule there amongst their bretheren. |
